Bee Attitudes: A Devotional for Families with Young Readers by Becky Lane

Becky Lane's first book came out in April 2025. Her hope is that it will be an encouragement to you and your family.

About Bee Attitudes: A Devotional for Families with Young Readers by Becky Lane

No matter how hard Bennett Bee tries to succeed on his soccer team, he fails. In fact, his whole team seems to just lose one game after another. As his frustration continues to mount, Grandpa Bee decides it is time to step in and teach Bennett about the Beatitudes - that is, the lessons taught by a Man named Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount. As the soccer season continues, Grandpa teaches Bennett that winning or losing doesn't matter. Blessings come to those who follow God's Word.

In this short devotional for young children, Becky Lane uses God's smallest creatures to teach big lessons that will stick with your child as they face their own failures and disappointments.

“The Bee-Attitudes is ‘A Game of Faith’ devotional for young readers, combining colorful illustrations with an engaging writing style and game-themed narrative that will captivate very young readers while teaching valuable life lessons. "I'll never be able to play! I'll never win!" Cries the endearing bee protagonist, Bennett, as he grapples with the challenges of playing soccer. With the loving guidance of his wise grandfather, young Bennett learns to see beyond the surface struggles and into the heart of the game, offering young readers a captivating gateway to the profound teachings of the Beatitudes. As Bennett’s journey unfolds on the soccer field, young readers will understand and empathize with the trials he faces while honing his skills. Discussion questions at the end of each day's devotion invites families to engage in meaningful conversations about faith and values. Scripture, "Sticky Notes," a glossary and the questions for discussion add depth to the devotional and provide homeschoolers and educators with classroom potential. The blend of storytelling and vibrant illustrations offers an introduction to the Beatitudes in a way children will understand and appreciate.”

“Becky Lane’s new book intertwines Scripture, colorful illustrations, and a story early readers can relate to. Bennett, a young bee, struggles with soccer and self-worth, but Granddad is there to guide him. Centered on Matthew 5, Bee Attitudes is a devotional that families will love to read together. Discussion questions, Bible verses, and big ideas called “sticky notes” are there for families with young readers to buzz into. I’ll be sharing this one with my grandkids.”

The Story Behind Bee Attitudes: A Devotional for Families
with Young Readers by Becky Lane

Bee Attitudes took approximately 19 years to become a published book. Becky Lane had the idea while on her way to class and reluctantly finished her degree in teaching rather than starting the book right then. Rejection letters were a very real part of life, between writing lesson plans,  teaching, and the rest of life. By God's grace, her pastor suggested she visit writers' conferences to network and when she did, she met caring people in the publishing world. "This book is so much more than it could have been years ago. God knows what He is doing. I've grown as a person and as a story teller in the waiting. Perseverance is necessary in the craft of writing and in life. My hope and prayer is that Bee Attitudes: A Devotional for Families with Young Readers will bless those who read it."

Written with Young Readers in Mind

When Becky Lane was young, she loved looking at illustrations, but text could be overwhelming. This ten day devotional is intentionally short and filled with illustrations. Bee Attitudes: A Devotional for Families with Young Readers is also made for grown-ups to read with their children. Bennett, a soccer playing bee, struggles making friends and with doubts about being "good enough." Unlike most devotionals for children, this one has a story line in addition to God's Word being shared in ways children can understand. The characters are meant for children to connect with (like Bennett) and recognize they have caring people in their lives (like Granddad). This book has been a labor of love and started back in 2006 for Becky. Before coming to you and your family, it was read by pastors, parents, children, authors, and teachers. By God's grace, this book is in print. We trust it will help families explain the beautiful concepts of The Beatitudes found in Matthew 5, to young readers.
