Your Place in History: Opening the Gift of Today

Have you ever wondered your place in history? Why were you born when and where you were? The close of a year can make us marvel. Have I done what I was meant to this year? Did I miss something? I have missed many things. I cannot go back in time. Today is what I have now. Tomorrow and next year are not promised.

Some people know God’s marvelous gift, His kindness, and ignore it. Paul begged the church at Corinth not to receive God’s gift and ignore it.

II Corinthians 6:1-2 (NLT)

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. For God says,

‘At just the right time, I heard you.

On the day of salvation, I helped you.’

“Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.”

Many of us put things off.

Laundry can pile up and be done later.

Replying to messages can wait.

Yes, we put things off, but some of us put the most important thing off. We’ll avoid it. We’d rather check our phones again and do just one more load of laundry. We don’t want to still ourselves before God, the one angels bow down before. We can be so uncomfortable with the idea of hearing God, that we will tell ourselves it’s not the right time. We promise ourselves we’ll do that later. When we are older, wiser, have more time on our hands, or feel like it we think we’ll get to it. “Today is the day of salvation.”

If you are waiting for the right time, it’s now.

God wants you.

He loves you.

God has a purpose in placing you where you are in history.

“‘The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’” Acts 17:24-28 NIV

I do not know if 2021 will come. If it does, it may not be better than this year. This I know, Jesus Christ came to earth for you. He has a specific purpose for your life. He loves you.

Have we truly received a gift if we haven’t taken time to open it?

A Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for today. Thank You for Your salvation. Please help me, I need You as Lord. My life is not complete without you. Please have your way in me today and forever. In Your Holy Name, Amen.

Thoughts to Ponder

How have you seen God’s kindness?

Who can you share His truth with today?
